Situated on the mainland directly opposite the gap between Benguerra and Bazaruto Islands in the Bazaruto archipelago, Villa do Indico is a relatively affordable new lodge, designed with fishing in mind. With access to the reefs around Bazaruto, Benguerra and Margaruque Islands as well as some nearby shallow inshore reefs, this lodge brings the quality fishing of the archipelago to you at a very affordable price.
Accommodation
The lodge is situated a mere 30 minutes off road drive behind the dunes through the indigenous vegetation from the centre of Vilanculos. Designed to sleep a maximum of 16 people, the lodge is spacious, comfortable and practical and has been constructed to suit the needs of fishermen. The meals are homely and filling, and mealtimes are adjusted to suit your fishing schedule. Thatched chalets are linked by sandy walkways to a main dining / bar area with views out towards the islands.
Boats and fishing
Fishing is run by one of Mozambique's top guides - Antony Diplock on his beautifully designed 24ft boat. Within 25 minutes of leaving the lodge, you will be in "the Gap" between Bazaruto and Benguerra Islands and from there the entire area is at your fingertips. The lodge offers fly-fishing, trolling, spinning and conventional tackle fishing.
Fish that abound in these waters are numerous big trevally species (including huge giant trevally), king mackerel, queen mackerel, queenfish, tuna species, dorado, prodigal son (cobia), sailfish, wahoo and a myriad of reef species - all of which are readily taken on fly. Black marlin are fairly common and have been teased up to within fly casting distance and one has been successfully landed on fly to date.
Most of the fishing is done with sinking lines on deeper reefs, or casting into shoals of fish exploding on the surface. Fishing around floating objects provides great sport with shoals of dorado and wahoo, and billfish can be teased up using hookless teasers. The fish are big and numerous, and with a knowledgeable guide you will experience some truly world-class fishing.
