Nestled in amongst the palm trees on a sheltered curve of beautiful beach on the northern end of Bazaruto Island is the stunning Bazaruto Island Resort. One of the oldest lodges in Mozambique, this tranquil setting is perfectly situated to access the fishing grounds that surround this 35 km long island. Bazaruto Lodge is without a doubt our top destination in Mozambique, and never fails to impress all those that visit this wonderful place.
The Island is part of the Bazaruto National Park and is well protected and managed by the World Wildlife Fund. Its rich ecosystems provide a habitat for numerous bird species, amphibian and reptile species including Nile crocodiles, loggerhead, leatherback and green turtles, and a huge variety of fish. Offshore dolphins and whales abound, and coral reefs provide excellent diving and snorkelling opportunities.
The Lodge
The lodge itself is exceptionally well designed and well run, and is the perfect place for anglers and non-fishing partners to enjoy. It is beautifully built and maintained, and has a open plan bar and dining area right on the beach and swimming pool. The island offers walks, snorkelling, diving, fishing, water-skiing, bird watching, Landrover 4x4 trips and beautiful beaches.
The Fishing
Bazaruto Island Lodge is arguably the best located in the whole of the archipelago when it comes to quality fishing. Quick access to a number of very productive reefs, good billfish water and shore-based fishing ensure that you enjoy a wide variety of fishing and fish species. Fish that abound in these waters are giant trevally, numerous other trevally species, king mackerel, queen mackerel, queenfish, tuna species, dorado, prodigal son (cobia), sailfish, wahoo and a myriad of reef species - all of which are readily taken on fly and spinning tackle. Black marlin are fairly common for those who want to tackle these monsters on conventional gear.
Liquid Horizon uses only the best and most experienced guides in the area and their high quality, well-designed boats. Most of the fishing is done on deeper reefs, or casting into shoals of fish ploughing into baitfish on the surface, but all other types of angling are available and guides are highly experienced in any form of angling. The fish here are big and numerous, and with our incredibly knowledgeable guides you will experience some truly world-class saltwater fishing.
