This remore area of the Baja Peninsula is regarded as the roosterfish fly fishing capital of the world, and is THE place to chase down these highly sought after fish. Miles and miles of remote beaches offer endless opportunities to track down feeding roosters - on foot, on four wheelers and by boat. This is where the iconic fly fishing cult movie Running Down the Man was filmed. If fly fishing for roosterfish along these beaches doesn't get your fly-fishing blood pumping then nothing will!
The guides are brilliant. Fishing with guides Mike, John and Bob is more than a fly fishing trip; it's a full on Baja experience that you will remember forever. They know the Baja intimately after 30 years of travelling its back roads, kayaking its shore line, surfing and snorkelling while pioneering the fly fishing techniques used today. They truly enjoy sharing their years of experiences with their guests, both on and off the water.
Liquid Horizon is running hosted rooster trips in May / June 2011 - there are only a few spaces remaining so please contact us to secure your place!
Fly fishing for roosterfish
Nothing quite represents the East Cape better than chasing roosterfish with a fly rod. With out a doubt the roosterfish is one of the greatest prizes in fly-fishing. Two methods are used to fish for roosters - chasing them along the beaches, or fishing for them from panga style boats.
Beach fishing for big roosterfish is the ultimate challenge. These fish move constantly along the beach in search of prey and afford small windows of opportunity. Guides and anglers patrol the beaches on 4-wheelers looking for fish. Once the roosters are spotted one has to move in quickly to intercept them and make the cast.
Boat fishing offers several advantages including the ability to cover more water and to tease up fish using live bait. The juveniles are relatively easy to catch, but become very fickle as they mature.
