An hour and a half's drive from Cape Town up the scenic west coast road lies spectacular Langebaan Lagoon. Bordered by a nature reserve, this expansive estuary with its azure waters and sparkling white sand boasts some excellent saltwater fishing for light tackle and fly anglers. The numerous channels, sand banks and extensive mouth of the lagoon offer an array of angling opportunities for a variety of popular saltwater species. In good weather conditions anglers can also fish the inshore waters around nearby Saldanha Bay. For something different and unique, the lagoon also offers exciting flats fishing for sand sharks in clear shallow water. Anglers can wade on the solid white sand flats and sight cast to sizeable cruising sand sharks.
Because of the size of the estuary, only boat fishing is viable. Liquid Horizon offers a fully guided package including boat and guide for a days fishing (fly & artificial lure fishing). There are a number of fishing options depending on the tide and weather.
Anglers will be fishing from a beautiful new Mallards concept 160 ski boat (16ft), which boasts a fly fishing deck, nose mounted trolling motor, and state of the art fly fishing, lure and bait fishing equipment. The boat is fully equipped with safety equipment, and is licensed with the National Parks Board.
The guide is a qualified skipper who knows the lagoon inside out. He is an avid fly fisherman who also practices artificial lure and bait fishing. Target species are elf (shad), leery (Garrick), yellowtail, kob, geelbek and steenbras.
